Summary

The Senior Legal & Compliance Officer will advise and support the business across a broad range of legal matters, with a primary focus on commercial, intellectual property, data protection and licensing matters. The role will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, advising on IP and licensing matters, providing data protection and privacy support, and assisting with gaming licensing and regulatory matters across various markets.

The successful candidate will have strong experience in commercial law, IP, data protection and licensing, together with a broad working knowledge of other legal areas. The role requires a commercially minded and pragmatic lawyer who can manage legal risk, provide practical advice and work effectively with stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial & Intellectual Property

  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of legal matters, including commercial, intellectual property, corporate, employment, gaming and betting, competition, and social and responsible gaming.
  • Draft, review and negotiate complex agreements relating to commercial activities, including marketing and advertising, payment services, corporate and intra-group arrangements, technology, licensing and game supplier agreements.
  • Advise on contractual matters and provide practical guidance on contractual terms and conditions, identifying and mitigating legal risks.
  • Provide legal advice and consultancy on intellectual property, trademarks, copyright, patents and licensing, including IP ownership, protection and usage rights.
  • Advise on contractual and legal aspects of projects across different areas of the business.

Data Protection, Licensing & Regulatory

  • Provide advice and support on data protection and privacy matters, including relevant contractual provisions, policies and procedures.
  • Provide legal and regulatory assistance as may be necessary in relation to the different markets we operate in.
  • Support the business in relation to gaming licences and licensing requirements.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, regulations and regulatory developments.
  • Represent the business before local and international Regulators and Authorities, as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local and international regulatory requirements, covering both regulatory and technical aspects where relevant.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support ethical and legally compliant business practices.
  • Provide training and guidance on relevant legal and regulatory developments.

Corporate, Governance & Due Diligence

  • Draft and review legal and corporate documents, including resolutions, letters, NDAs, POAs and documentation relating to basic corporate changes.
  • Review and/or draft terms and conditions, policies and procedures.
  • Manage and supervise the due diligence process, including KYC/KYB, to establish and maintain business relationships with Third Party Providers, Financial Institutions and Regulators.
  • Organise and maintain appropriate internal corporate governance records, including annual AGM minutes.
  • Support Legal Procurement and the engagement of external legal advisers where required.

General Legal & Business Support

  • Handle or provide legal support in relation to player complaints and claims.
  • Advise on player disputes and provide legal support on projects across different areas of the business.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Legal Department, both locally and internationally.
  • Deliver high-quality work within deadlines and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required by the business.

 

Key Requirements

  • Minimum of 6+ years’ post-qualification legal experience, with a strong background in commercial law, intellectual property, licensing and/or data protection.
  • A degree in Law is required; a Master’s degree in Law or equivalent postgraduate legal qualification would be considered an advantage.
  • Qualified to practise law in an EU jurisdiction.
  • Experience in commercial contract drafting, review and negotiation, ideally including technology, software, licensing, services, supplier, distribution, marketing and/or gaming agreements.
  • Strong practical experience in intellectual property, particularly trademarks, copyright, software, IP ownership and licensing.
  • Strong working knowledge of data protection and privacy law, including GDPR.
  • Strong working knowledge of iGaming/gambling legislation and licensing requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and build effective relationships with senior stakeholders.
